Here are some highlights of the August 3, 2010, Council meeting; minutes will be in the September newsletter.

Income in July was $33,799; expenses were $31,990.  The July payment to the Synod has not yet been made.

The Invite Board is beginning their fundraising efforts for a video projection system to be used during services.  Many church groups have already started to assist with their own fundraising efforts—keep an eye out for opportunities to contribute to this project.  The board will continue the fellowship time between services and encourages the youth to take it over as a means to raise funds for their national youth gathering travels.

Because of problems that have been experienced with our expensive, complicated media equipment, the Council voted to require an approved LMC multi-media technician be hired and paid $50 to operate the equipment at special events, including weddings and funerals.  Volunteers, especially retired persons, are needed to learn how to operate the equipment.

Last year there was not a summer program for the kids, but day camp was held earlier this week (August 9-12) and Vacation Bible School was held in June.  Many children participated and had a lot of fun!  Rally week is coming early in September.

Trustees reported there will be a church cleanup day September 11 at 8:00 a.m.—Please come help!  Time and talent sheets will be available during Rally week.  Children will be invited to participate in a “noisy offering” at each of the church services starting in the fall.

The W/ELCA bazaar is October 9.  Work is beginning on the Wednesday evening meals and cookie callers.  The women will hold a quilt raffle to raise funds for the video projection equipment.

Be sure to sign the pew pads when you attend services and pass them on to others.  This is a wonderful way to get to know your neighbors by name and to enable us to acknowledge and greet our visitors.

We are thankful for a $5,000 endowment gift received in memory of Doris Henrickson.

Watch for information in the near future about the “Natural Church Development” process at our church.

The Sunday service times will be 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. beginning in September.  The 10:00 summer schedule has been well received and will be used during future summer months.

The Constitution Review Committee has been working very hard and will have their recommendations to the Council for their September meeting.  The congregation will be informed of recommended changes and will vote on them at the January, 2011, annual meeting.

The Theological Conference will be in Pierre in September at the Ramkota.  Closing worship and breakfast will be at Lutheran Memorial.

The ELCA has drafted a social statement on genetics that they will vote on at their 2011 Church wide meeting.  You can find information about it at http://www.elca.org/genetics or contact the church office.  Comments should be sent to the ELCA or forwarded on to the Church office for submission as quickly as possible.

A Children’s Choir will be formed for 5 year olds through 2nd grade.  What a blessing for all of us!

Watch for produce in the narthex at services—the produce is being donated by Men in Mission and the funds are going towards the video projection equipment project!

God’s blessings to everyone!
